Opiate of America -- Penn State Edition

Nothing much else to add to this video. Penn State hit with crippling fine:
The NCAA has hit Penn State with a $60 million sanction, a four-year football postseason ban and a vacation of all wins dating to 1998, the organization said Monday morning. The career record of Joe Paterno will reflect these vacated records, the NCAA said.
Penn State also must reduce 10 initial and 20 total scholarships each year for a four-year period.
Someone get the NCAA a copy of Scoreboard, Baby: A Story of College Football, Crime, and Complicity, immediately. It's not just the sordid canonization of Joe Paterno and the primarily white student body of Penn State -- the opiate is on every campus. It runs deep at the University of Nebraska, the University of Oklahoma, the University of Miami, Florida State University, and every Southeastern Conference (SEC) member school.

There's a reason Bane started his "revolution" in the movie The Dark Knight Rises at a football game.

Clearly this underscores how much of an "opiate" football has become to Americans. Your book is indeed very timely Mr. Kersey.

The wins were earned by the players on the field. So I don't get vacating the wins. It comes off as having more to do with spite and really wanting to destroy Paterno's legacy than 'justice'. And Paterno's legacy has already been destroyed.

At least the Detroit Lions showed some decency and cut a player after his second arrest this summer.

I have said it on my blog numerous times, and I'll say it here.

All football, from NFL down to Pee-Wee League, needs to take a season off as Saudusky penance. Not only because I don’t think Sandusky is the only Sandusky, but also we need to do a collective catharsis of all the crimes, immorality, debauchery, idiocy and insanity our society tolerates in the name of football. Why did everyone at Penn State (and by “everyone,” I mean a lot of other people not named in indictments or the Freeh Report) look the other way when they knew? Because football is America’s opiate drug. Why did Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton say that football players are akin to soldiers and not regular citizens when he was making excuses for his home state’s NFL team’s starting running back? I just answered that question. I’m personally holding our obsession for football collectively responsible for what Jerry Sandusky did and was allowed to get away with, therefore, it must be collectively punished.

This is huge.

Penn State has to put 20 players on their roster that can actually get in to college.

When Penn State is eligible again they should have the highest GPA of any D1A football program.

And I have a feeling they will winning games.

Something seems to be going terribly wrong with college football. Yet, it doesn't seem so black and white. While many of the wholesome traditions like bands, fight songs, bonfires, pep rallies and cheers still persist; these seem to be fading in prominence in the increasingly ESPN/Nike/Gatorade dominated world of sports. There are still many white athletes who take the field and are also good students, but they are subtly ignored, especially in the SEC who's fans almost exclusively support black athletes at every position except punter, kicker, and long snapper. As we saw with Doak Walker award winner and Heisman runner-up Toby Gerhart at Stanford in 2009, he didn't even receive national media attention until mid way through the season. He was on no media outlet's preseason Heisman watch list although black running backs Mark Ingram, LaMichael James, and C.J. Spiller were. He outperformed those other running backs in most statistical categories, most importantly in yards gained and Touchdowns. Gerhart was on of maybe a dozen white running backs who started on a Division 1 FBS team out of 116+ schools. He was often ignored on ESPN game highlights until the tail end of the season. If it had been 1951 and he was black, all the coaches would be clamoring for more running backs who looked like him. But since it was 2009 and he's white, he was treated as the rare freak exception despite plenty of successful white running backs who excelled for years before affirmative action at that position went into overdrive. I wish him an enormously successful season and good health this year.

What did they do with the Paterno statue? Rumor has it that they put it in Sandusky's old office and covered it up!

Sweet Zombie Jesus that was one hell of a week we just had. We started out with the rebel invasion of Damascus in Syria, followed by a Bulgarian bus bombing that just happened to kill Israeli tourists. Then there was the alleged assassination attempt on Hillary Clinton in Israel followed by the mass Batman shooting. Finally we had the Paterno statue removed and the Penn State football program receive one of the most severe punishments in NCAA history. The Olympics are just around the corner. It should be an interesting rest of the summer.

Once worked at a university in Kansas and discovered that short of murder anyone associated with the athletics program was pretty much bulletproof. The school would pay off the victims, give the perpetrators a glowing recommendation before sending them off to another school.

For the victims, if you allow yourselves to be bought off, then you are aiding and abetting the continuation of the culture of coverup. The schools hate bad publicity especially if it is against the athletic department.

I've always thought Paterno was something of an odd duck. Wasn't the statue (with the strange grin) of Paterno somewhat creepy anyhow? Who would want to look like that? Isn't it odd for a man over 80 years old to want to spend his time coaching a college football team?

However, I've been reading some articles lately that claim White athletes are denied positions simply because they're white. Anyone have some insight into this issue? Is this also true of boxing? or the NBA?

So, are you saying that the NCAA should do the exact same as Paterno did and look the other way?

PATERNO KNEW. Other high ranking Penn State officials KNEW. All of them did NOTHING. The scoreboard was KING.

The players and the games they won are all fruit of the same poisoned tree. If Penn state is not held accountable in the most harsh way possible, what message does that send to players who are seeking to join their team? Will this not encourage other programs to clean house?

Lastly, does anyone truly think this will alter the landscape of college football anywhere save at Penn State? rjp's point does pertain in that the Nittany Lions will likely become a reflection of pre-1960s all-White college football. And just how ironic is that? Still, I doubt it will shift the Black-licking mentality of most other football coaches.

Too bad the same sort of thing will never happen to Barry Bonds.

The article has to do with football worship, a malady whose symptoms include tolerance of things that ought not be tolerated, like pedophilia. And Black thugs.
Sports offers the White public one of the very few positive views of Blacks, and even that view requires constant effort to conceal their brutish behavior. Strip the halo off of football, and there is one less pipeline for the egalitarian sludge.

Hey you anonymous POS. Keep your anti-Catholic nonsense to yourself. Why divide whites unless you're a troll spreading dissension. Sex abuse and sodomy is no more widespread in the Catholic Church than in any religion or other social organization. You want to know the highest rates of abuse. It's in education which just happens to be what Penn State is. You might want to ask yourself why the media focused so much on the Catholic Church. I assure you it isn't because they're friendly to the Church. It's because they hate the Church and want to destroy it. The media also wants to destroy us so think about that.

Old-line SEC fan here. Per Anon 1:07PM's comment, the money the football team makes is spent on the football team and the non-revenue producing sports, female teams in particular.

It NEVER goes to the academic side of the school. There is a misconception held by some that football "makes money for the school." No, it makes money for the football team.

A favorite ploy by athletic directors is to whine "We need more money in order to stay competitive." When he gets the money, the AD simply raises the budget and demands still more money a couple of years later.

It has occurred to me that Paterno is not the only big-name college or pro coach who would have covered up similar crimes by a valued assistant. One might ask: Which coach would have turned Sandusky in? It makes you wonder.

Please purchase a clue. Sandusky besmirched the reputation of Whites by engaging in child molestation. The race traitor coaches who overload collegiate and professional sports teams with barely literate, semi-retarded, violent wannabe thug life criminal gangsta punk Blacks betray all of the Whites, be they students, their parents who pay tuition (or taxpayer financed student loans), plus any teachers, staff and whatever off-campus population that falls victim to the Black cretins who in no way belong at such places of learning.

A WHORE IN CHURCH HAS MORE RIGHT TO BE THERE.

Paterno and his ilk are race traitors of the very worst sort. They have betrayed the loyalties, dreams, dedication and worth of their schools' respective alumni in exchange for the false prestige of having won at sports more deserving of finesse than brute force.

As the reputation of these schools decline due to their track record of matriculating and graduating incompetent low-life Black thug afletes, so do these academic institutions steal countless BILLIONS of dollars in decreased future lifetime earnings for their collective student bodies who spent MILLIONS of dollars pursuing degrees that are devalued by such malfeasance.

The millions in game attendance season tickets, commercial endorsements and even, perhaps most ironically of all, increased enrollment are dwarfed by the shattered lives and downstream theft of career income that will result in deferred life milestones like car purchases, marriage, house buying and having children, all of which further damages majority WHITE America.

The harm done isn't just to individual White lives, it helps to wreck the entire American economy.

Black thugs in collegiate sports are an "indicator species" whose pervasive and robust existence demonstrates the depth of White America's subversion by Cultural Relativism and its conjoined ideological twin, Cultural Marxism.

The elimination of ALL THREE are necessary before any healthy recovery can begin for White America.

I'm glad this exposé has happened.
In agreement with others, college and pro sports are so tainted with unethical people and immoral activities that calling them 'sports,' is an oxymoron.
I hate football and fail to understand why anyone in his/her right mind would want to spend precious time in this short life watching roided up Neanderthals push and shove each other around on a field. Why not go all the way and institute state organized Roller Ball?
Lawless pro and college sports have just about come to that.
The health consequences. Football and other high impact sports [boxing] are dangerous, putting even young athletes at risk for irreversible cranial injuries down the line. The newer helmets are supposedly designed/upgraded to mitigate brain trauma, but the reality is, they don't help that much.
Google "dementia pugilistica," or "shaken baby syndrome."
Example: Professional boxer, Cassius Clay, aka Mohammad Ali. His dazed, noncognitive demeanor is not attributable to just Parkinson's.
He is textbook DP, and has been for years, prediagnosis Parkinson's, thanks to repeated brain injuries incurred in pursuit of "the prize."
I wonder if you realize that the price was too high, Cassius.
I have had post-pro career football patients. They all tell me the same sad story. It's a "kill 'em and kick 'em to the side" profession." When you are used up, injured, disabled, they wash their hands of you.

From the rampaging Penn State students when Paterno was fired to the dazed look they have at the announcement on TV yesterday, I can only conclude that we are dealing with a pernicious cult.

They are brainwashed and need immediate intervention. Sadly, my own 80 year old parents can't see what's going on.

When I was a teenager in '76, I had a desire to go to Penn State. Not because it was a good college but because it was a "party" college. That about says it all.

This is not about the treatment of white athletes vs black athletes. This is about widespread fanatical devotion to what amounts to a kid's game. It's about institutions of higher learning shutting out prospective students in favor of paying 85-IQ blacks to chase balls around.

If you think football has any redeeming value, you're missing the point. It was fanatical devotion that enabled these crimes. Blacks on the verge of rioting in Dallas, Texas tonight, Tuesday July 24, 2011

http://www.dallasnews.com/incoming/20120724-police-chief-says-officer-feared-for-his-life-before-fatal-south-dallas-shooting.ece

Police in riot gear held back an angry crowd in South Dallas for hours Tuesday after an officer fatally shot a suspect.

Hundreds converged outside Dixon’s Grocery a block or two from where the dead man lay face down in a grassy lot. Rumors spread among the crowd that the man, identified by police as James Harper, had been unarmed and shot in the back by police while fleeing.

But late Tuesday, Police Chief David Brown said Harper, who had a lengthy criminal history, had fought with an officer throughout a lengthy chase.

Brown held a news conference to lay out what happened:

Three officers responded about 5 p.m. to a call in the 5300 block of Bourquin Street that someone had been kidnapped and was being dragged into a home. After knocking on the front door, people inside began scrambling to flee, including through windows.

The three officers gave chase to four suspects at a suspected drug house, Brown said. Officer Brian Rowden, an eight-year veteran, began chasing Harper on foot. The chase ran along an alley and over three fences.

Harper fought Rowden at several points during the chase. After jumping the third fence, Brown said, Rowden was exhausted and still clinging to Harper, who was still beating on him.

Brown said that Harper told Rowden: “You’re going to have to kill me.”

Fearing for his life, Rowden pulled his gun and shot him, Brown said. Harper collapsed.

"He basically lost that fight and had to make a judgment decision that we'll second-guess," Brown said.

Harper had a lengthy criminal record, with arrests for assault of a security officer, drug charges, vehicle theft, evading arrest and other counts.

...

A crowd that appeared to number in the hundreds gathered shortly after the shooting. Television reports indicated that some people were seen carrying guns.

At one point, at least one officer was seen firing what appeared to be pellets into the pavement in an effort to disperse the crowd.

Later, several fist fights broke out among onlookers. A woman was taken away in an ambulance.

In fact it's more important than speed, strength and on field production when compared to white players.

Mr Kersey:

While I find much of your disproportionate focus on Black folks as "The" problem in America rather amusing I give you credit for being accommodating of me - a Black Guy.

Do you see the quote above from Anon?

I wonder if he and other Whites who rest comfortably behind this notion of "Average IQ Differences Between The Races" have actually LOOKED AT A BELL CURVE and use their analytic skills to note what it represents.

I am one of those few Negroes who took Calculus and Econometrics in college, all without the benefit of being an "Affirmative Action" admit. When I gradated high school I had a "white collar", that was NOT the representation of the skin color that I wish I was BUT instead was for the "National Honor Society". And this from a 50/50 Black/White school.

You see the bell curve, at its peak has 50% of people "Smarter" and '50% LESS smart".
The point that Anon doesn't get is that while indeed there were great scientists, etc in this nation who were WHITE that brought to common knowledge a good number of the historic finding - they reside in the UPPER TAIL of the "White bell curve".

I struggle to understand why the average White person claims a "RACIAL HISTORY OF ACHIEVEMENT" that they themselves, and/or their family and peer group were NOT responsible for.

In fact, it is clear to see that there is a CLASS stratification among Whites where wealth, culture and education vary differently between the various segments.

It is any more legitimate for a Black person to say "WE AMERICANS created the light bulb and the nuclear reactor" as it is for a White person who is in the lower 50% of the bell curve, 3 standard deviations below the apex of the curve? (oh yeah - I took a masters level statistics course as well)

My bottom line point - which can be applied to the purpose of this entire blog is: OK I GET IT. Certain Black people are trouble makers and the Black community in its present orientation (into politics) fails to place a proper check on this subset and their behavior. (Of course many of you believe that the set of trouble makers is large enough to instead count the EXCEPTIONS).

Once we get past the point above, where you point out the consequences of having to deal with Black people in a shared society I really don't see how this blog edifies what WHITE FOLKS need to be doing and focusing upon in proportion to the grand problems that this nation has, which BLACK PEOPLE could not possibly be the source of as we don't have the NUMBERS, THE MONEY NOR THE POWER to be blamed as the source of these issues.

Ex-Lincolnite here:

When I went to college at the University of Nebraksa, we had a parking lot on the east edge of City campus known as the rape lot by the old Whittier Jr. High building. Indeed, they even caught a UNL basketball player taking part in the rapes. But they didn't report it.

Probably the most famous incident at Nebraska happened in 1970 or 1971. Johnny (the Jet) Rodgers, of Heisman trophy fame, knocked over a gas station on 9th and South Streets in Lincoln. Coach Bob Devanny intervened with the Lancaster County Attorney, and no charges were ever brought.

There have also been numerous illiterate blacks who have come through our system, just so they could play football. I remember Lawrence Phillips. He was a dangerous thug nigger from day one, but we let him run the ball for us.

I'm glad I'm out of there. I know the statistics don't show it, but with the addition of New Orleans and Somalian savages to the city, a once, all-white city is getting a hard lesson. Number one of which is that when you have an all-white city, you can get by with fewer police even in a city of 200,000. Add just a few jigs and then you need way more. The black undertow is real, but what will anyone do about it?

Of course you don't. Because you believe we're all atomized units, entirely distinct from each other.

We're not. No man is an island. Do you really think that someone like Newton was just as likely to discover the laws of physics in Great Britian, as he would be if he were raised in the cannibal jungles of africa or modern day Detroit?

Newton was a product of British society, and each individual Brit contributed to that society in their own way, simply by being a productive member of it. This is a concept that both liberals and blacks utterly fail to grasp.

race = genetics. society/culture = genetic expression.

Put Europeans on an island, you get Great Britian.

Put asians on an island, you get Japan.

Put africans on an island, you get Haiti...and let me tell ya, the next Newton ain't coming outta Haiti.

Why shouldn't we, we get the collective blame for slavery of centuries ago, even though it was whites who died to end it. And even that's not enough-blacks seem to expect whites "collectively" to pony up for "reparations" even after all the money we've had to fork over already for "entitlements", all the jobs and college placements lost to unqualified blacks (ie LE tests being dumbed down for their benefit), all the lowering of scholastic standards so the poor oppressed darkies won't look bad.

I'd say, according to the standards used to hold us all collectively at fault (even of your family came here through Ellis Island),it is perfectly consistent to take collective pride in the achievements of whites as a race. It's not as if blacks anywhere in space or time, as a whole, have ever even remotely approached it. You all want to just be "Americans" when it comes to claiming the achievements, but the rest of the time, when you're eeking and ooking for your rights as a "community", you're just black. You don't get to have it both ways, though you'll never stop trying.

society I really don't see how this blog edifies what WHITE FOLKS need to be doing and focusing upon in proportion to the grand problems that this nation has, which BLACK PEOPLE could not possibly be the source of as we don't have the NUMBERS, THE MONEY NOR THE POWER to be blamed as the source of these issues.

You most certainly can, at app 12%of the population, but punching far above your weight in crime statistics and economic drain on the public treasury, be far more trouble than you're worth.

As for what we discuss here, right now it's mostly how best to avoid dealing with most of you, as laws have stripped our freedom of association. Even speaking the truth and using statistics to support it is "rayciss" in 21stC America. The truth doesn't make you look good so it musn't be spoken.

All many of us want is to never have to deal with you. Considering how rayciss and oppressive whites are, the constant refrain in this country, I'd think you would welcome that. But something's rotten in Denmark when whites are oh-so-racist and oppressive but blacks will follow us to the ends of the earth when we committ the hate crime of white flight. Sounds like you want us around, but only for your own ends-ie, slaves.

All those kids raising themselves without a dad in sight. Its not getting better its getting much worse. Wow. You tout how you went to college. Yay let's bow to a jig that did what you are supposed to do.

Response to Constructive Criticism for the Benefit of Newcomers Who Have Not Heard All This Before: The 12% of people in this country who are Black are capable of doing so much damage because destruction is so much easier than creation. One 15 year old with a hammer can smash a Tiffany window that took weeks to create and years of experience to learn how. A 50 cent bullet can kill a surgeon. When I last checked, 53% of the murders in this country were committed by Blacks. That's how Blacks manage to have so much influence in this country, just as cancer matters to its victims.

Regarding pride in being White: The achievements of any society are a consequence of the aggregate talents and efforts of its members. If, for example, I hit a single, and caught a fly ball, I contributed to my baseball team's victory. I rightly have pride in that victory, even though I never scored nor made the final out, because I advanced our cause. Likewise, when I act White, and by so doing help create a White-acting community, I rightly have pride in my community's achievements. When I pick up litter I see on my street, or go to work and do that work honestly and ably, I am helping to create a White-acting society. When my neighbor does not have to put bars on his windows because I am no threat to his property, I am helping to create a White-acting society. When I drive courteously and smoothly, allowing others to go about their business with minimal friction, I am helping to create a White acting society. And this White-acting society allows all the rocket scientists and neurologists to do their work without wasting time hiring private home security or stopping to pick my dog's crap off their lawn, or spending an extra five or ten minutes a day in unnecessary traffic. The great creators and high achievers choose to live near people like me, even if they never even know of me. Even if they live further up the hill in bigger houses with nicer cars, they're glad that they pass through my White neighborhood on their way to the lab. I and my kind create the sort of communities that promote higher civilization, even if only by not destroying it. Blacks have no such reason for any pride. Their's is the pride of the naughty child: "I sure fucked that up".
There are Blacks, of course, who do not leave their trash around, who drive well, and do not steal. But, like Constructive Criticism, they are defenders and often relatives of those who do. The nice Black is soon followed by his brethren, the ghetto boys. The eight Black A-students that integrated Central High School in Little Rock were followed by the Black mob that made it what it is today. This pattern has been followed countless times, and we'd be fools to not recognize it.
